Time Flies By
Wow, that’s the second year gone by – two down, only one left to go! These past two semesters have really seen a step up in workload, as well as quality. Despite the first year not counting towards the final grade, we’re glad we put in the effort when we did.
Practical & Digital Effects
This year, we’ve been working on more short films and documentaries to further develop our knowledge and skills. For one of the films we made, we really took the time to improve our lighting and cinematography. We also put a lot of time into planning many different locations to help make the story come to life. For a separate film, we focused on the use of practical effects and prosthetics as narrative devices. Alternatively, we’ve also focused on digital effects such as filming in a greenscreen studio. We made a short creative film that put the characters into a completely different environment. One short film we made was entirely animation, this one took us by surprise by how long it took to create!
Real & Fictional Documentaries
For our video and photo journalism project, we shot and filmed a short story on the very relevant topic of Food Banks. Including hard facts and figures with interviews of volunteers and users, we were able to tell an important story that needed to be heard. On the other end of the spectrum, we also made a mockumentary! We created a fictional Bed & Breakfast business, complete with it’s own website to match. The fake documentary revealed the work behind the scenes of an independent B&B of a slightly out of touch owner and manager. We even created a 360 video tour guide of the different rooms to put on the website!
The End of Second Year
We’re looking forward to the summer break this year, as we prepare ourselves for our third and final year! Hopefully we’ll be able to put together all that we’ve learned these past two years to do some great work next year.
